Sorrow or Happiness

Bookmark and Share Digg!

Lord Buddha renounced all the pleasures of this world seeing the sufferings of Man. He felt sad seeing the sufferings of Man and it is said that he associated the following as the main sources of sorrow or happiness.

The mother-child relationship is a basic source of sorrow or happiness and from this even the person who has renounced the world has no escape.

Any type of relating oneself with others becomes a source of sorrow or happiness. It is the affinity or affection one has that brings about either transitory happiness or sorrow.

Even slight acquaintance may be a cause; a person living in our neighborhood might have suffered a loss and that may make us feel sad. One living nearby winning a lottery may excite us.

Showing pity and sympathy can cause sorrow or happiness - seeing a child beaten or hurt may make one sad; the arrest of the person responsible, happy.

Belief is a strong source of sorrow or happiness and there is no need of confirmation and any information. Hearing from a trusted source is enough to make one sad or happy.

I have seen people laugh with P.G. Wodehouse and weep on seeing the sufferings of the hero or heroine in a film. The ability to feel with others who may be real or imaginary is another great source causing happiness or sorrow.

The title has 'sorrow' first to show that of the two fleeting things sorrow is sure to occur.

Find them all to be very mundane and wonder whether there is any escape and possiblity to transcend them and attain serenity?
