'Out of sight, out of mind’ so goes the saying.
The sufferings of a victim of a crime may not remain a matter of public interest for long. The news is a fleeting one and the suffering remains personal.
Readers lose interest in a crime when new and bizarre ones arrive. The news media forget the suffering souls. With new victims added daily, the law enforcers can not find time to trace back or remember the old victims. Out of sight and publicity may not lessen the sufferings of victims of past crimes.
Many might have suffered physical disabilities and some mental agonies and some may even remain unrecovered from that state of shock. Some may remain ignorant of what can be done to alleviate their problems and some may remain resigned to their fate, while some others may be incapable of claiming their rights. They may also require help to come out of the stigma got affixed to them.
Making the rights of victims of crimes a common knowledge should help such victims and their families.
