Autism

Bookmark and Share Digg!

The news item on the last day of March in cnn.com created a new doubt in the minds of many young mothers. Babies are expected to be given shots at regular intervals and mothers very carefully adhere to the schedule. The news item says,” Some parents believe that thimerosal, a preservative found in childhood vaccines that virtually every child gets, causes autism, because many children were diagnosed after they were vaccinated."

To my knowledge at least three mothers who have babies below a year, phoned up their physicians to know whether they should go ahead with the shots. I also hear that the hospitals do not record the administration of flu shots given to babies. This seems to be not a mandatory one. So the hospitals normally do not record the flu shots.

Autism is diagnosed only when the babies start showing abnormality in their behavior and speech. Details about what accually triggers autism are not found. So the fears of mothers are well founded.
